DaisyLabs at the 9th Edition of AIRO Young Workshop

From February 26 to 28, 2025, the University of Pavia hosted the 9th Edition of AIRO Young Workshop, an international event dedicated to operations research and data science. Under the title “Shaping a Sustainable Future in the Era of Big Data”, the workshop brought together experts and researchers to discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by big data for a sustainable future. 

DaisyLabs participated with two distinguished speakers, Riccardo Bagarotti – Data Science Team Leader, and Alberto Giacomo Orellana – Data Scientist, who delivered a presentation titled “Automated Extraction, Visual Recognition, Resource Allocation, and Intelligent Chatbots in Data Science“. 

DaisyLabs’ Commitment to Research and Development
The DaisyLabs Data Science team is actively involved in research and development projects, both in collaboration with industrial partners and through internal innovation activities. Our research focuses on several key areas: 

• Automated extraction of information from unstructured documents: We develop advanced techniques to process documents like orders, technical sheets, and delivery notes, transforming them into structured and relational models using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Natural Language Processing (NLP). 

• • Advanced visual recognition: We analyze product images to automatically identify components and features based on predefined taxonomies, optimizing state-of-the-art visual recognition models. 

• Resource allocation optimization: We study tools and algorithms to improve staff utilization efficiency and manage operational constraints more effectively. 

• Development of intelligent chatbots: We implement solutions based on advanced NLP models to assist users in navigating software documentation, providing targeted responses and contextual suggestions to improve the accessibility of available information. 

A Concrete Contribution to Innovation
Through these areas of research, DaisyLabs continues to push the boundaries of data science, developing solutions that enhance information management and processing. Our participation in the AIRO Young Workshop was an important opportunity to share our know-how, engage with other industry experts, and contribute to the debate on how big data can drive a more sustainable future.
